Lets talk Swedish, “Massage that is”

If you’ve never had a massage before, then a Swedish Massage is definitely the way to start. It’s a well-known “Stress Buster” guaranteed to have you feeling totally relaxed in as little as an hour. So popular, it’s not uncommon for some clients to book 2 hour sessions.

Unlike the Eastern  practice of Thai Massage, Swedish provides long slow gliding strokes, squeezing, rolling, kneading and rhythmic tapping.

You know when you have one of “those days or weeks” where nothing goes right and each day your neck, shoulders and back get tighter & tighter. A Swedish massage at Lavender Moon is the ultimate answer. It’s all about relaxation!

3 Facts about Swedish massage (you may not be aware of)

1

It’s not actually Swedish
It was Dutch practitioner Johan Georg Mezger who deserves that accolade. He developed the treatment we know today and named the classic stokes in French like effleurage,  petrissage. Don’t worry about the translation, they just work so well and help provide the end result – feeling totally relaxed.

2

It’s a scientifically proven stress buster
Having a regular Swedish massage will, not only leave you relaxed but according to The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that people who received a 45 minute Swedish massage experienced a significant drop in levels of the stress hormone cortisol, and an increase in white blood cells which help your immune system to fight those dreaded colds.

3

Swedish Massage is great for your skin
Massage, especially “Swedish” increases your blood flow. This helps plump and rejuvenate any loose skin and also increases lymphatic drainage (sounds awful that phrase) but it actually helps remove toxins in the body. Leaving your skin in a much better place

What should I do after a massage?

Always drink Water…Your massage can help flush out some toxins from your body, increase circulation of both the blood and lymphatic system. So, water will replace any fluid lost and help aid the bodies replenishing system. Adding an extra glass or two will help you feel better for longer.

Can I drink Tea, Coffee or Alcohol after a massage?

Having Tea, coffee or alcohol after a massage isnt the same as adding a glass of water. I would recommend you avoid these as they are diuretics (you lose more fluid then whats going in your body) They stop the body absorbing water effectively and will inhibit your body getting rid of toxins.

Can I eat after my massage?

Having something to eat after you massage, albeit a snack, speeds up your circulatory systems, other body functions such as digestive system. This will help if you fell light headed after your massage as your body will be requiring n energy boost.

Should I rest after my massage?

Try to book your massage when you know you can go home, put your feet up, read a book or watch tv.. This helps you to continue to feel good and continue that calm feeling of wellbeing.

Should I sleep after my massage?

If you feel like sleeping, do it! Listen to your body. Your muscles have just been worked and manipulated, this is your time to recover and recharge your batteries.

How should I feel afterwards?

Both during and after your massage you might feel emotional. As your body relaxes, its quite normal for you body to relax and release any harbouring emotions  you’re holding on to.  While you may feel energised, refreshed, stress free there may be times when you may feel the need to cry. This is perfectly normal. It’s the bodies way of releasing your stresses that have been stacking up.

Will I be sore afterwards?

Its normal to feel a little sore or tender after a massage or the next day. Your therapist will have worked muscles in your body, so it’s like a having a full body workout for your muscles especially if they are overly tight. Having a regular massage will help reduce this over time.
